Sarah Palin on Glenn Beck
Great interview monologue by Glen Beck. Governor Palin and Glen go over the sacrifice that the polar bears would happily make (I assume they are legitimate Alaskan's) to save the country from sky rocketing gas prices.

Big Blue is Gone... RIP
Back in 2004 I bought a truck, for the first time in my life I decided that I would get the truck I wanted, it had the big motor, the right color, matching camper shell, seating for six, it had everything I needed and everything I wanted ... it was a nice truck! But as we were using it to move back from the East coast we ran into a little trouble; as I sat sleeping in the passenger seat, the PA turnpike collaborated with two semi trucks to drive Big Blue into the cement median in the middle of the Turnpike. Thank God no one was hurt, the truck absorbed all of the impact my Mom (the driver), myself, and two dogs in the truck were not injured at all. So far the only damage we have noticed to the content of the truck was one broken glass in the back.
The truck on the other hand was a complete loss. Even though the cosmetic damage was repairable and the engine still ran, the impact bent the frame of the truck making it to expensive to repair. I'll miss having an all purpose vehicle capable of hauling kids, bicycles, dogs, and people in relative comfort without any reconfiguration. Our next car will most likely be much more fuel efficient and not nearly so useful.
Rest in Peace Big Blue, and may your salvaged parts keep 100 trucks working hard in southwestern Pennsylvania for years to come.

China = enigma
Performance in the Drum Tower, While this is not my video, I witnessed the same performance in this tower - awesome! Upon returning from China a couple of days ago, I have to say that China is fascinating, where else in the world can you see ancient culture like the drum tower performance in a country with perfect cell phone coverage but no drinking water...

Food Fight
This video is an entire course in Military history, combined with international cooking. I've got to talk to the Dean to see if we can get this added to the cirriculm.

Call me - GrandCentral
When I started this blog it was based on the premise that my phone could talk to my blog (I know most of you thought my motivation was much deeper), now my blog can talk to my phone...
... If you look to the right of the screen, there should be a "Mr. Call Me" button. That is a new service I'm trying out called "GrandCentral". Basically it allows anyone who wants to leave a comment by voice mail ... to leave a comment by voice mail. When you click on the button, it asks for a number where you can be reached, the software then calls you.
From that point on, I can configure the software to connect you with me at any phone number I designate, or it can put you into a voice-mail system. Once you finish recording your voice-mail, GrandCentral sends me an alert on my phone and also sends the voice mail to my email account. I can listen to the voice mail from my phone or from my computer.
The software is in beta right now after being bought up by Google.
Give it a shot...
I've been goofing around with GIMP the open source image editor, it has many of the same capabilities as Photoshop, but it is open source and distributed to both windows and Linux users. As you can see comparing this image with the one I posted last week from William and Mary, you can do a number of interesting things to pictures with this software. To get the more dramatic colors in this picture I increased contrast, and then used a tool called color curves to make the reds and greens pop. The tools are not as easy to use as Photoshop, but for the price you can't beat it!

Shopping for colleges
William and Mary
What a great campus, We took the kids down to check it out. Second oldest college in the country, and can claim Thomas Jefferson as one of it's alum, they must have had a great government study program back in the day.

I'm Free!
A good friend of Mobloggin works the keys for KT Cat at the Scratching post but I have been slack'in in my posting behavior here on this blog. I send my apologies to the maximum leader and offer this post ...
I'm Microsoft free!
I took the leap a couple of weeks ago, took an old PC and reformatted the hard drive. The new platform is UBUNTU - 7.10 - the Gutsy Gibbon -Linux,
It's amazing... this old clunker I got from my daughter when she upgraded is nearly as fast as her new Vista platform. Gutsy Gibbon installed much more quickly than any MS platform, there is tons of free or cheep software available. It recognized all of my hardware, with minimal anguish (a problem I have had with other Linux installs).
Bottom line, if your thinking about buying a new PC, look into upgrading the operating system on your old system, it's way more fun.
